About us

There are more than 160 young people registered with the group, the majority of whom come from ethnic minority inner city communities in Birmingham.

A high proportion of our members also come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The scout group plays a pivotal role in positively engaging these young people in a safe and caring environment. Through the scouting programme, we seek to develop the potential talent and skills of these young people and empower them to serve the wider community.

The group is run by a team of around 40 volunteer leaders, who are all DBS checked and trained to deliver the scouting programme and work with young people aged 6 – 18. Throughout the year, we run a series of physical, educational, recreational and leisure activates for our scouts. Some of our activities include:

• Weekly two-hour sessions: During a typical session, the scouts work towards achieving badges and awards in a range of activities, some indoors (arts and craft, first aid, map reading etc) and some outdoors (archery, wall climbing, sports etc.), as well as cover a range of Islamic topics to aid their development as young Muslims.
• Outdoor trips to places of social and civic interest (Police and fire stations, old peoples’ homes etc), with the aim of developing awareness of British culture and its institutions and how they can play a part in serving the wider society.
• Sports outings and hikes: These are essential for developing physical fitness as well as encouraging discipline and teamwork.
• Outdoor camps and survival weekends: Through these, the scouts learn key outdoor skills such as outdoor cooking, tent pitching, orienteering etc as well as develop social skills, team working skills, confidence and independence. They also develop an appreciation of the outdoors. As many of our scouts come from inner city areas, scouting provides rare opportunities for them to explore the outdoors. Camps also provide a chance for the scouts to live in a Muslim environment for the weekend, praying collectively and listening to inspirational reminders.
